Edith
Was the kind of lady Who helped folks in the name of doing good. With dominos, cards, whatever the game, She'd talk folks through their joy, pain or shame. Championship empowerment was her style. With her Jaguar, house and glowing smile. The soap stories were her specialty.
Serving her family and community

Edith Was Touched By The Lord
Her last words were: I LOVE YOU SHE IS FREE OF PAIN - SHE IS WITH JESUS Photo taken at the home of Robert, Cindy and Keith McCauley |
And oh, she served us well.
Be it teaching a new mother
Advising folks on standards, She stayed true to the Lord, every day, Helping folks find their way. Though we will miss her with all our hearts, In truth, we're never really far apart. Our eternal souls are speaking out. Within the body or with out. The Lord’s Love is what it is all about. |

Edith Akuna Edith Akuna, 69, passed peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2005 at 2:45 a.m. at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Peas" as she was known to her family, "Eddie" as friends called her and "Moms" to the younger folks, was loved and respected by many. She did not believe in limitations. Edith was born in Alabama, spent her early years in St. Louis, moved to Los Angeles where she married Vernon Akuna (deceased). They had three beautiful, children, Sherwood Akuna of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Sherwin Akuna of Victorville, California and Shawna Akuna (deceased). Her children gave her wonderful (the kind one prays for) grand children, Neisha, Crystal and April Akuna. Her grand children gave her great grands, Starr, Jon Pierre, Malik and CorLee, who brought even deeper joy in her soul. This was extremely important to her because in the previous six years she lost her mother, Nan Pruit, her daughter Shawna, her Aunt Gert, her Brother in love Ronnie, and her husband (though divorced, neither did re-mary). Her instructions are: Pray to the Holy Father |
How She Passed Edith, who was otherwise healthy, died of squamous cell cancer (SCC) the kind that results from chemical and petroleum by-products exposure. SCC is usually a skin cancer. She had it internally. In the 1980's Edith worked for General Motors in Van Nuys, CA. Her job on the finishing line was to put the stickers on new cars, approving the engine worked. She also pumped gas into the cars for part of her time there. To do her job, Edith breathed the chemicals off the new, starting cars and from the gasoline for years. After developing respiratory problems, she was put on complete disability about 12 years ago. Because she breathed the chemicals, the SCC was on the outside of her internal organs. She had a mass that went from the top of her neck down her right lung, a second tumor lower on her lungs and one on each kidney. After a seven week fight, she passed from SCC. Extra prayers are being said for other General Motors employees and their families who were in the same area she was at various plants. General Motors knew she was a smoker and knew she lived in a high risk area when they hired her. The six member Akuna family also lived next to a refinery in Carson, California in the 1970's. Within a seven year period her mother Tutu passed in '98 - bladder cancer, daughter Shawna in '99 - brain hemorrhage / secondary infection picked up from the hospital, Russell '01, and Edith '05, died. The two still alive, her sons Sherwood and Sherwin, spent the least amount of time living in the house. Was it chemicals she brought home on her, the refinery, both or more is still being researched. Think about it and share your conclusions with your neighbors. |
From her Aunt Mega and Uncle Bro
Sweet Pea
A long
time ago when you were born (smile)
your Uncle Bro saw how small you were.
And when
it was time for you to start walking
you just couldn't get the hang of it (smile).
So when he
saw Sweet Pea in the funny paper,
he decided to call you Sweet Pea. (smile)
And that name has stuck with you all of your life.
You and I
have called each other a lot of funny names
and I’m going to miss that.
But most of all I’m going to miss you very much.
I feel like I’ve lost a part of me.
But one day we’ll meet again on the other side.
Till then, may God bless you and may you rest in peace.
We love you.
Uncle Bro and Your Aunt Milky
(smile)
Pray for every soul every day.
